What is Run University?
Run University is led by Coach Danny Haralson, a certified run coach who has been featured in numerous local and regional publications and in Runner’s World. Look around to learn more about Danny's Couch to 5k Program and other great programs!
Couch to Half Marathon: Goal Race is the Talladega Half Marathon. The program begins June 2 for those with a base of 3 miles (those with a base of 6-7 can participate, too). Just $99. To sign up now, click the "pay now" button at the top left of the site or click on the "Sign Up" tab above and choose half marathon training. Danny will email to confirm your registration.
Upcoming Events:
FREE Speed work camp: Want to run faster and set a PR? Whether you run a 12-minute mile and you want to run an 11-minute mile, or you run a 7-minute mile and want to do a 6, this is for you. Date TBD in early June. Stay tuned!
Couch to 10k: The next group will begin the last week in August.
Run University offers a variety of training programs, including the popular "Couch to 5k" and "Couch to 10k" programs, along with personal and speed training. The Run University approach teaches you to adapt to running gradually and gives you the tools to do so, successfully. With each new distance, you learn you can do things you never thought possible.
The confidence grows each day, each week as you slowly, but consistently conquer ne w territory by going further and getting stronger until instead of why not me; you declare proudly – Yes, ME!
Run University is led by Coach Danny Haralson, an RRCA (Road Runner Clubs of America)-Certified Coach and an AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America) Certified Personal Trainer. His Running 101 (Couch to 5k) program is designed to for those who are new to running or returning to running--no matter the age, ability, prior experience, or speed. Danny has trained thousands of runners and turned non-runners into athletes.
With Danny's program you will learn how to run. It's not about speed--Danny teaches you to cover the distance, while having fun. The great thing is that as you progress in your running, you will become stronger therefore running faster.
Couch to 5k

Never run? Think you can’t run? You can!
With the Couch to 5k Program, you’ll gradually build up to a goal 5k race! The program includes the following:

• Couch to 5k Training Plan/Schedule
• 3 organized group runs per week
• Regular motivational emails
• Tips on stretching, what to wear, preventing injury, and preparation

Training for Beginners
In Danny’s Running programs an important by-product of the running is in understanding the importance of short and long term goals and howthey can increase the gain in self confidence, self esteem as well asself-empowerment. As you progress you will discover within yourselfthe ability to persevere, your own determination and the self-satisfaction that comes from a job well done! Many people decide to start running and they (for whatever reason) select a 3 or 4 mile run to start with! They lace up some old tennis shoes they’ve used for cutting the grass--Chuck Taylor Converse AllStars, or (ladies) their old Reebok aerobic shoes, and off they go!That first mile is exhilarating, but that last mile is excruciating!They get back and they have a ‘side stitch’, their knees ache and theyare gasping for air. They take a hot bath and fall into bed. The nextmorning they get up and as their feet hit the floor they sound like abowl of Rice Krispies (snap, crackle, pop); their legs and joints ache and they declare, “Running is not for me, it’s too painful!”Well, no wonder!
Danny’s Running 101 program is built upon‘adaptation’. Each new runner begins with walking and running, okay,‘slogging’ (slow jogging) and as each week passes they walk a littlefurther and run a little further, then he or she runs a little more and walksa little less until it’s all running all the time! Each day, each run is another opportunity to conquer your own doubts.It’s not a big thing much like a brick is no t a big thing, but a lotof bricks put together will become a wall and a lot of runs puttogether will become a 5K or 10K and a new, improved you.The Running 101 program is also available to organized groups, churches andcorporations through RunUniversity.
Personal Training
Run University offers personal training appointments for beginners as well as PR's (personal best), Boston Qualifiers, and Personal Training ('round' is NOT a shape!). Lose weight, get lean, and get in shape physically and cardio-wise with Danny or Micki.
Training for Speed, Form, Efficiency or Endurance
Danny’s Fast Trax Program is for the athlete who has been running for a minimum of 1 year who is interested in running stronger, setting PR’s, of perhaps qualifying for Boston. These goals may be accomplished through a custom-designed schedule including but not limited to, track work, hill work, tempo or pace runs depending on (and designed for) the specific goal. There's no charge for initial meetingand assessment; thereafter rates begin at $150.00 month.
